In deference to student requests, the Bar Council of India has extended till November 15 the last date for registration for the All-India Bar Examination (AIBE), scheduled for December 5.

According to a BCI release, the last date was originally fixed as October 31 and over 21,000 applications were received as on the date. But the BCI received requests from State Bar Councils (SBCs), law schools and students for extending the date so as to allow law students/newly enrolled advocates further time to register for the AIBE.

As per the BCI proposal, passing the AIBE is mandatory for those who graduated during 2009-10 to commence practice in court. The online mechanism is being reactivated for the extended registration.

All applications must be sent before the close of business on November 15 to the Bar Council of India, 21, Rouse Avenue, Institutional Area, New Delhi – 110001.

The SBCs are being requested to speed up the enrolment process to enable all law students to apply and enrol for the AIBE. All fresh law graduates and newly enrolled advocates may routinely check the BCI website ( for updates and news on the examination.
