All trade and business establishments in Shimla, its suburbs and the adjoining towns remained closed on Thursday as a mark of protest against the government’s mishandling and inefficiency in nabbing the real culprits in the Kotkhai schoolgirl gang rape and murder case. People came out in large numbers, joined various political and social groups in every corner of the town and protested throughout the day.

The CPI(M)-controlled Shimla Citizens’ Forum and activists of the AIDWA and SFI took out a processionand presented a memorandum to Governor Acharya Dev Vrat.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh briefed the Governor on the rape and murder case of the schoolgirl and the custodial death of a Nepalese accused in the case.
