Australian antenna detects Mangalyaan entry

Australia on Wednesday claimed credit for detecting the Mangalyaan orbiter’s entry into Mars’ orbit. Canberra’s Deep Space Station 43, the largest antenna in the Southern Hemisphere, received minute signals from the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) on Wednesday morning. The two countries have a Memorandum of Understanding on Civil Space Cooperation since 2012. Indian High Commission officials were present at Deep Space Station 43 when the signals were received, said the release.
