Army officer honey-trapped; faces probe

July 12, 2012 02:14 am | Updated 02:14 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A Lieutenant Colonel of the Army is facing a Court of Inquiry (CoI) for allegedly establishing unauthorised contact with a Bangladeshi woman on social networking site Facebook, sources in the Army said here on Wednesday.

What has come as a further embarrassment for the Army is the suspicion that the Bangladeshi woman could be an agent of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and the woman is said to have earlier honey-trapped an Indian officer in Dhaka last year. The officer at that time in Dhaka was blackmailed by the ISI which reportedly asked him to spy for Pakistan.

The Armoured Corps officer, stationed in Suratgarh district, is now facing a CoI which was ordered after the Intelligence Bureau officials noticed that the officer was in regular touch with the Bangladeshi woman on Facebook.

Army sources said that the officer's contact with the woman was limited only to the cyber domain.
