At least four suspected militants are believed to be killed in a gunbattle in north Kashmir’s Gurez area, close to the Line of Control (LoC).

The operation that started last night is on in Kanzalwan area of Gurez, where mountain passes are closer to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

An army official said the encounter broke out when militants opened fire on the search party.

The troops were manning the fence when the attempt to enter into the valley was made by the armed militants.

“Bodies of two militants along with two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the site,” said a police official.

More details are still emerging as the operation continues.
