Another extension for Cabinet Secretary

With the Union Cabinet on Wednesday agreeing again to amend the service rules for the Cabinet Secretary, the present incumbent, K.M. Chandrasekhar, who has been in the post since June 2007, is all set to receive another extension, official sources told The Hindu .

Appointed in 2007

Mr. Chandrasekhar, a 1970 batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, was appointed to the top bureaucratic job in 2007.

The term of the Cabinet Secretary has been fixed at a minimum of two years.

Last year, he received a one-year extension.
