The YSR Congress city leaders are angry over the rumours allegedly triggered by certain groups of the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party about the possibility of the TDP winning the Nellore Municipal Corporation mayor post.
YSRCP leaders, who were hitherto silently watching the situation, have instructed their cadres to get prepared for the worst if any such attempt is made by the rival parties.
YSRC has got undisputed mandate as far as Nellore city and surroundings areas are concerned in the recent civic and general elections. Its senior leader Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy won from Nellore rural Assembly constituency while P. Anil Kumar from Nellore City segment.
The YSRC fielded Abdul Aizeez for the mayoral election and it has got 32 out of the total 54 divisions in Nellore Municipal Corporation. In the general elections, Nellore parliamentary constituency was also won by the party’s Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy.
With the YSRC’s representation in all levels of civic and legislative bodies, it is not expected of the rival parties to even think of breaking into its ranks and prevent it from claiming the mayoral post. This is the argument being put forth by the party city leadership as of now.
The followers of Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy were of the view that the present rumours are being floated by a section of the Congress leaders who have lost deposits in the recent elections. These Congress leaders had a secret understanding with some groups in the TDP in order to make attempts to destabilise the YSRC’s total control in city and surrounding areas.
In the wake of these political developments, the YSRCP leaders are making calculations whether the TDP would attempt to win over the support of YSRC corporators at all.
The TDP, which got 17 divisions on its own, would need eight to 10 corporators so as to make a claim to the mayoral post at this juncture. The YSRC leaders said that if the margin is of two to three divisions, then the TDP might think of encouraging defections.
The rumours about the likely political manoeuvrings have raised the temperature a little among the cadres of different parties.
