YSRCLP petitions SHRC for restoration of security to disqualified MLAs

June 16, 2013 03:30 am | Updated 03:30 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The YSR Congress Legislature Party has urged the State Human Rights Commission’s intervention in restoring security to the MLAs who have been disqualified recently.

In a representation submitted to the SHRC chairman, the MLAs alleged that their gunmen had been withdrawn without taking into account “our public life” wherein some of them were elected as MLAs continuously for two terms also. The State Government’s move coming immediately after the Speaker’s order of disqualification was an act of “intimidation”.

The Government was aware that the ex-MLAs faced threats from anti-social elements and rivals and the withdrawal of security was tantamount to violation of the human rights.

“The State has miserably failed to protect us and therefore, violated Article 21 of the Constitution,” the representation said asking the SHRC to direct the State Government to continue the security by providing gunmen immediately.
