YSR Congress leader Allam Narendra was murdered in the busy Santapeta area here on Tuesday evening.
Narendra was rushed to a private hospital in the city as he suffered grievous injuries to which he succumbed later in the night. The murder created a sensation in the political circles here with no clues being found with regard to the assailants.
With the sudden murder of a popular leader in local circles, fears were being expressed over whether this would open lead to murder politics eventually. However, relatives of Narendra attributed the murder to serious land disputes in which he got entangled as he was also a practising lawyer in the city. Narendra was said to have had differences with his father over their property at Santapeta.
For several months, Narendra had been residing in the Fathekhanpeta area by taking a house on rent there.
Narendra had served as the Nellore city convener of Congress and also as the general secretary of the district unit of the party. In the last civic elections, he lost to the BJP nominee.
Narendra was stated to have involved in the private settlement of several land disputes.
