An attempt was made on the life of YSR Congress Party leader and Srikurmam major panchayat sarpanch Baratam Ramaseshu in the early hours of Thursday.

Mr. Ramaseshu was on his morning walk when three miscreants allegedly attacked him with knives, causing injuries on his neck. A few villagers saw him faint after the attack.

Condition stable

He was rushed to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam, where his condition was stated to be stable.

Fortunately, the wound on his neck was not deep as he was wearing a muffler at the time of the attack.

Senior party leaders Dharmana Prasada Rao, Tammineni Sitaram, and Reddi Shanti condemned the attack on Mr. Ramaseshu, and alleged that the TDP was behind the incident.

They met SP C.M. Trivikram Varma and urged him to order a probe into the incident and nab the culprits at the earliest. They threatened to call bandh if action was not initiated immediately. Mr. Trivikram Varma told them that the police had already begun an inquiry into the incident.

MLA Gunda Lakshmi Devi and former Minister G. Appala Suryanarayana condemned the attack and consoled the family members of Mr. Ramaseshu in the hospital.
