Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned thrice on Tuesday after Opposition YSR Congress members disrupted the Question Hour and repeatedly stormed the podium seeking a debate on waiver of loans taken by DWACRA women.

Soon after the House met to take up the day’s agenda, Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao announced that he was disallowing an adjournment motion tabled by the YSR Congress Party on loan waiver of DWACRA women.

Demanding the chair to allow a debate, placard-holding opposition members trooped into the well, surrounded the Speaker’s podium and raised slogans. Appealing to the members to resume their seats, he asked them to come in an appropriate form for allowing a debate. With the members not relenting, he adjourned the House.

When the House re-assembled after about 30 minutes, the Speaker allowed leader of opposition Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to speak. Mr. Reddy said that DAWCRA women had outstanding loans to the tune of Rs.14,204 crore when Mr. Chandrababu Naidu became Chief Minister and loans up to Rs.1,000 crore were renewed. He said that 14 per cent interest was being charged on the outstanding amount even as the TDP members protested.

The YSR Congress members repeatedly stormed the podium demanding the chair to allow Mr. Reddy to speak after the Speaker disallowed him on the ground that there could not be a debate on the issue after the adjournment motion was rejected.

After the House was adjourned for the second time and met again, the Speaker announced that all the questions were deemed to have been answered and directed Deputy Chief Minister Chinna Rajappa to make a statement under Rule 74 on a murder case in Prakasam District. With the YSR Congress members again surrounding the podium and raising slogans, he adjourned the House for the third time.

Earlier Labour Minister Atchan Naidu criticised the YSR Congress members and accused them of deliberately disruption the proceedings as thy were not interested in discussing people’s problems.
