A debt-ridden youth caused a flutter by attempting suicide at the Collector’s office here on Monday, allegedly upset over the district administration not coming to his rescue.

Even as a large number of people waited in a long queue at the grievance redress programme, ‘Prajavani’, held by Collector Sujata Sharma, the youth, Naresh (20) from Ayina Satram area near the Railway Quarters, consumed pesticide after getting a lukewarm response to his plea for relief.

Amid commotion, he was rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences here for treatment.

According to police, Naresh claimed that last year he had taken a loan of Rs.1.50 lakh from a woman and paid back the amount but was being pressed for payment of Rs. 3 lakh.

The suicide bid came on the heels of a 30-year-old woman attempting to take her life at the Prakasam Bhavan vexed with the inordinate delay in settlement of a land dispute by revenue officials.
