Upset over opposition from family elders to their marriage, two youngsters tried to end their lives by consuming some poisonous leaves at Tavanampalle near Chittoor on Saturday. The girl died, while the youth survived the suicide pact.
According to Chittoor Rural (West) police, Vennela (20) and Govardhan (22) -- both hailing from Tavanampalle mandal headquarters -- fell in love four years ago. Their parents had been refusing their proposal to get married.
Vexed with this, the duo reached Yogi Gutta, a forest location, on Saturday and consumed the leaves. Later, they reached a road nearby where the girl collapsed and breathed her last.
However, the youth was rushed to a hospital here, where he was declared out of danger. Police have registered a case.
