City-based Young Men’s Happy Club theatre troupe has won nine out of 10 awards in the national-level annual theatre competitions conducted by Srikalahasteeswara Lalita Kala Parishad at Srikalahasti in Chittoor district recently.
The troupe won accolades for performing historic play ‘Desamunu Preminchumanna’ in the 12th annual competitions and won first prizes in several categories including script, direction, actor, supporting actor, actress, supporting actress, make-up, properties and performance.
Felicitating the troupe members at a function held here , Club president Dantu Surya Rao said that the Young Men’s Happy Club was one of the oldest theatre troupes in South India and provided platform to actors like Anjali Devi and technicians like Adinarayana Rao, who later migrated to the film world and made their mark in the southern film industry. He was very happy as the artistes and technicians of the present generation too were continuing the legacy of the club and proving their mettle time and again. “We are planning to arrange the performance of the historic play that won nine awards in Kakinada soon. Our club will continue to encourage the theatre artistes and technicians,” he said. Secretary of the club K.V.S. Seetaram, vice-president D.V.N. Sarma, artistes and technicians were present.
