A myriad of colours dotted the horizon as children and elders chose to usher the ‘festival of colours’ with pomp and splendour in the temple city here on Monday.
Equipped with musical instruments and colours, denizens turned revellers bringing a joyous mood to the otherwise conventional city. They also took out a procession, covering the major junctions in the city, greeted passers-by and distributed sweets. Varsity and college hostels wore a festive look as students celebrated holi with enthusiasm. At Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV), it was a riot of colours as students splashed colours against one another.
Students of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) invited their Vice-Chancellor Hare Krishna Satapathy to join the celebrations. Prof. Satapathy smeared colours and also shook a leg with the students.
Few families of the North-Indian community in Tirupati, who form a major part of the Holi celebrations, chose to stay away from the revelry. They attributed the reason to a slew of marriages among relatives. Nellore Staff Reporter adds: Holi revelry spilled on to the streets with young and old, college students and schoolchildren celebrating the festival of colours amid joy and fervour.
The localities having sizeable number of north Indian populations burst into the Holi celebrations right from Sunday evening. With malls coming up in the city, the sprinklers of colours in different sizes and their latest models have become available for the revellers to make the most of the festival.
Mandapala Veedhi, Bondiliveedhi, Achary Street and Chinna Bazaar are home to significant presence of Jains and Marwaris, who constitute mainly traders and businessmen here.
With Holi becoming popular among local populations also, youngsters smeared with different colours were seen in other parts of the city as well during the day.
Chittoor Staff Reporter adds : The Rajput Sangh organised the celebrations in Chittoor town and the revelry witnessed the participation of the Jain community in a big way in the arterial locations of Church Street, Brahmin Street and Bazar Street in the town.
Scores of families came onto the streets and threw colours at each other and women were engaged colorful Rangolis.
The communities distributed sweets. In various colleges, students also joined the Holi festivities.
