Keeping its promise to make the shift to the new capital region hassle-free for the employees of A.P. Secretariat and offices of Heads of Departments, the government on Wednesday cleared the proposal to provide working women hostels for the convenience of women employees.

Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker has directed the Guntur District Collector to identify and provide suitable accommodation for the women employees. Priority would be given for employees of HoDs who started shifting to the capital region by June 27.

An exercise was launched to collect details of employees who want working women’s hostel accommodation as majority of women employees would shift to the capital region alone without disturbing their children who are pursing various professional courses here and other members of the family.

Working women’s hostel was one of the demands of women employees to the Chief Secretary and he responded positively.

As per the preliminary estimates, about 700 women employees would be shifting from Hyderabad, and the government asked the employees’ associations to furnish their details department and category-wise so that accommodation could be provided close to their offices to the extent possible.

An official said accommodation would be required mostly in Mangalagiri, Vijayawada, and Guntur as majority of HoDs were locating offices in these areas. Rain Tree Complex and Anjaneya Towers were also being examined for the purpose.

Officials are also on the lookout for accommodation near the temporary Secretariat at Velagapudi for women employees of the Secretariat planning to move alone. The State officials are closely monitoring the admission of children of employees in various schools and names of contact persons for school admissions were released so that employees could approach them in case of any difficulty. District Educational Officer of Krishna district said that of the 78 applications received for school admissions, 54 were given and the remaining applications were under process.
