‘Wise strategy needed to achieve inclusive growth’

March 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - RAJAHMUNDRY:

The government should evolve a six-pronged strategy covering education, health, financial services, infrastructure, income-generating activities and good governance for achieving inclusive growth, Prof. S. Teki, principal of Adikavi Nannaya University (ANUR) College of Arts, has said.

Timely event

Delivering the keynote address at the two-day national conference on ‘Fiscal strategies for inclusive growth’ at ANUR on Thursday, Prof. S. Teki termed the conference as topical and scheduled aptly at a time when the Centre was focused on achieving inclusive growth and the fiscal strategies needed for it.

Bottlenecks

Prof. Teki said inclusive growth faced bottlenecks not only in India, but also other countries. “One per cent rich possessed 99 per cent wealth, while 99 per cent accounted for one per cent. Therefore, buoyant fiscal strategies are essential for inclusive growth,” he added.

Income-generating activities

He called on policy makers to promote income-generating activities and ensure that people fulfilled their needs without banking on freebies and subsidies.

ANUR Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. George Victor said inclusive growth had been the concern of successive governments. Dr. T. Anita, Dr. P.A. Naidu, Dr. P.L. Narayana, Dr. A Lavanya Kumari and Dr. K. Nirmala also spoke on the occasion.

The seminar is sponsored by the Andhra Pradesh State Higher Education Council.
