The new Vice-Chancellor of Krishna University, S. Rama Krishna Rao, has set a three-point agenda to be met during his regime. In a tete-a-tete with The Hindu on Saturday, Prof. Rao explained his agenda, which includes developing the university into a model university, which is geographically close to Amaravati.

“The other two goals,” Mr. Rao said, “are completion of the construction of the university’s own buildings the works on which will commence by March and going for an inspection by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council,” Prof. Rao added. The environment expert is optimistic of bringing the entire 100-acre new campus under solar power, while plans are afoot for the project with technical support to be provided by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

“If everything goes as planned, the university will have its own campus by the academic year 2017-18, and it will comprise a working model of aquaculture, too,” Prof. Rao said.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stressed the need for developing the university into a model institution with necessary innovations such as developing research working models on the campus and solar power, an energy efficiency system”, he said.

Academic collaboration with UK varsity

“The university is lucky to be located close to Amaravati. We want to take advantage of it in future. Talks are on with a UK-based university for academic collaboration, with more focus on the textile field,” Prof. Rao added . Given the social and academic background of students joining the university, special on-campus sessions will be organised to help them tackle competitive examinations like civil services, he said.

“We are seriously exploring ways on how to shift to the virtual world to offer online Kuchipudi dance courses, an added asset that takes the image of the university beyond borders”, Prof. Rao added.
