The Lakshagalarchana (voice of one lakh people) organised by the Dharmavaram mandal-level Joint Action Committee comprising all government departments was a huge success with people turning up in huge numbers.
The call given by the Dharmavaram mandal JAC to organise a protest involving at least a lakh people, raising slogans demanding Samaikyandhra, proved to be a crowd puller with all main roads teeming with people.
Sloganeering
With the College circle as the centre, people stretched out up to the sub- jail in one direction, the court and Kala Jyoti circle.
Around 11 a.m., the crowd started sloganeering demanding Samaikyandhra. The sloganeering persisted for about half an hour before the crowd started to disperse.
Addressing the crowd at the College circle, Dharmavaram MRO P. Venugopal Reddy said that the government employees and the people in general were agitated over the division of the State and that the movement for Samaikyandhra wouldn’t die until a statement was made by the Union government to keep the State united.
Earlier, artistes staged pro-Samaikyandhra stage plays evoking strong support from people.
On the other hand, the Anantapur District Joint Action Committee (ADJAC) said that the proposed Laksha Jana Garjana programme in Anantapur town on 3rd September would be a show of strength for Samaikyandhra.
The salient feature of the protests since they began has been the near complete absence of politicians heading any popular movement for Samaikyandhra with the exception of isolated protests.
