Vikas to host South Zone handball tourney

Krishna University vice-chancellor S. Ramakrishna Rao on Tuesday said South Zone inter-university handball championship for men would be held at Vikas College of Physical Education (BPED) from October 21 to 25 in Nunna near Vijayawada.

University teams numbering 60 from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry would participate in the five-day championship, he said.

Mr. Ramakrishna Rao said KRU was encouraging sports and games in a big way and had allotted ₹50 lakhs in the recent budget.

“The college management will provide free accommodation facility to all the teams.

For the convenience of players food courts and medical facility would be provided,” he said.

The matches would be conducted on knockout-cum-league basis.

Inter-zonal

“The first four best teams would participate in the all India inter-zonal handball tournament which will be held at Rani Durgavathi University in Jabalpur”.

Inter-varsity

Krishna District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) B Srinivasa Rao said, for the first time South Zone inter-university handball championship for men was being conducted in a rural area.

Vikas Educational Institutions secretary and correspondent N. Satyanarayana Reddy, Krishna University Sports Board Secretary N. Srinivasa Rao, Vikas College of Physical Education principal Dr S Raju and others were present.
