All ears: YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy having a word with election strategist Prashant Kishor as Y.S. Vijayamma looks on, during the plenary on Sunday.

YSR Congress honorary president and and party president Jagan Mohan Reddy’ mother Vijayamma and Sharmila, Mr. Jagan’s sister, on Sunday said all promises made to the people by the party would be fulfilled.

Ms. Vijayamma and Ms. Sharmila addressed the delegates at the YSR Congress plenary here on Sunday.

Ms Sharmila said that her brother would have become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2014 itself if he had made the ‘false promise’ of waiving the loans of farmers. “He told me that he would rather sit in the Opposition than break the promise made to the people,” she said and added that “going back on promises is not there in our blood.”

In sharp contrast, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu did not fulfil any promise he made to farmers, DWCRA women and others at the time of election. Despite ‘the false promises,’ the Telugu Desam polled only 5 lakh votes more than the YSR Congress. This was by all standards a every slim margin. Her brother, who contested for a Lok Sabha seat, won with a thumping majority of 6 lakh votes, she recalled.

Ms. Vijayamma said when false cases were booked against her son and bail denied she told herself that she would advise him to come out of politics, but did not do so keeping in mind the well-being of the people.

‘Credit goes to YSR’

She alleged that the welfare schemes started by her husband Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy were being watered down by the Telugu Desam government. She said had YSR been alive the Polavaram project would have been completed. If there is uninterrupted power supply in the State today, it is because of the initiatives taken by YSR, she said.
