Tension prevailed in Bhainsa on Friday after suspected activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) attacked three persons and damaged the autorickshaw in which they were travelling.
They pelted stones on the three-wheeler while being dispersed by policemen for having taken out a procession in town without due permission.
The situation, which threatened to turn into communal violence, was brought under control by the police who clamped prohibitory orders and reinforced the presence of security-men.
The injured were being treated at the Bhainsa Hospital.
According to police, the VHP activists had sought permission to take out a procession in connection with the Ramanavami celebrations. Despite the police denying them permission, the activists came onto the road and headed towards a place of worship.
DSP Devidas Nagul, who tried to dissuade them from taking out a procession, fell on the ground after he was pushed.
Policemen on bandobast then resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse activists.
The latter hurled stones while on the run causing injuries to three persons. Police have detained 10 suspects.
