The attempts to launch their children in politics is slowly turning into a difficult task for three veteran Congress leaders in Nalgonda district.
Since the past five years Rajya Sabha Member, Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, has been working hard to field his daughter, Sravanthi Reddy, from Munugode Assembly constituency from where he had contested eight times and won five elections. The DCC has also forwarded Ms. Sravanthi's name to AICC.
HeartburnHowever, with the Congress’ decision to sail with the CPI in the election, the Congress almost has decided to offer this seat to the Left party causing heartburn to both the father and daughter. Though he did not announce openly, six-time MLA Kundur Jana Reddy also had put lot of hopes to field his son either from Nagarjunasagar or Miryalaguda Assembly constituency.
But Mr Raghuveera Reddy's name did not find a place in the list of contenders that was forwarded to AICC by the DCC for any of the 12 Assembly constituencies. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy also is taking part in campaigning in Nagarjunasagar constituency held by his father.
Changed scenarioAnother five-time MLA, Ramreddy Damodar Reddy’s foreign-returned son, Sarvotham Reddy, is also aspiring to contest from Bhongir MP seat. The father and son duo also announced this openly several times. But now his name has been proposed for Suryapet Assembly constituency along with sitting MLA and his father, Mr. Ramreddy, indicating the changing political scenario.
With TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah and sitting MP, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, in the race for the Bhongir MP seat, it appears the chances of the high command offering the seat to Mr. Sarvotham Redddy are bleak. However, Mr. Ramreddy is persistent to launch his son in politics at any cost. With high command indications on one seat for one family, the chances TPCC working president N. Uttamkumar Reddy's plan to launch his wife, Padmavathi, either from Kodad or Huzurnagar are also set to draw some opposition from other aspiring leaders planning to contest from Kodad.
