Vendors’ stir hits vegetable farmers

November 06, 2017 01:28 am | Updated 01:28 am IST - KURNOOL

Alleging exploitation by commission agents, vegetable vendors enforced a bandh of the NTR vegetable market at Yemmiganur on Sunday.

The traders asserted that they would buy vegetables directly from farmers and wanted elimination of commission agents in the vegetable market. They did not budge despite discussions held by Yemmiganur Municipal Commissioner Raghunatha Reddy and as a result, sale of vegetables was stalled.

Peeved at their vegetables lying unsold, farmers of several areas who brought the perishables to the market, squatted in protest at the Vegetable Market circle. They alleged exploitation by both vegetable traders and commission agents and non-purchase of their stocks. They urged the Commissioner to make arrangements for purchase of the vegetables.
