Two remand prisoners escaped from the Tadepalligudem sub-jail on Sunday afternoon, when the prisoners were allowed to have a haircut. They were identified as Sirrapu Ganesh of Gudivada in Krishna district and Bugata Shiva of Tadipatri in Anantapur district, who were arrested by the Tadepalligudem police on charge of committing thefts. As per the schedule, the sub-jail staff released three persons each in batches from the lockup. After the haircut, the prisoners were allowed to take a shower. As the process was completed, the officials undertook a headcount and found that the two were missing. The officials found that the duo had scaled the 15-foot compound wall and jumped out. Though an electric fence was arranged to the wall, there was a power cut at the time of the incident.

In-charge jailer V.V. Gopalakrishna told the media that only five employees were on duty. He said the incident came to his notice at about 2 p.m. and the same was informed to the police immediately. The police visited the prison and conducted a preliminary inquiry. A case was registered and investigation was on.
