Two contract workers died on the spot and two others were seriously injured in an accident here at the Gangavaram Port in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Allu Satish Kumar (49) and Surya Prakash Reddy (59), both native of Sabbavaram.
The incident took place at around 3.30 a.m. when the cable of the crane loading iron beams into a vessel, m.v. Behdad snapped.
All the workers were in the cargo hold when the cable snapped and the beams came crashing down. The injured had been shifted to a private hospital where they were said to be out of danger.
