April 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - ONGOLE:

Childline India Foundation NGO partner HELP thwarted two child marriages in Chirala division of Prakasam district on Friday.

While the parents of a 17-year-old girl, who dropped out of school after studying Class X, fixed her marriage with o a 23-year-old electrician at Anthapeta in Chirala town, the mother of another 16-year-old Class X student arranged her marriage with her 30-year-old maternal uncle at Pandalapalli, near Vetapalem.

On a tip-off, social activists from HELP rushed to both the places and stopped the marriages by taking undertakings from the girls' parents to the District Child Welfare Committee not to perform their marriages till they attained the age of 18 years.
