Two six-year-old twin sisters died while their 30-year-old mother was hospitalised after the three consumed rat poison in a suicide pact, at Pandurangapuram village in Nandyal mandal. The incident which took place on November 3, came to light on Friday.
According to the police, the woman Nandipati Sailaja consumed rat poison and administered the same to her daughters Himaja and Himasri, owing to family disputes.
Kurnool Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna visited the Kurnool General Hospital today and enquired with Sailaja about her family and the reasons for the suicide bid.
He said one of the twins Himasri, died two days ago, while Himaja died today.
Sailaja was married to one Subba Reddy of Pandurangapuram village seven years ago and their daughters were students of LKG in a local school.
Differences between Sailaja and her mother-in-law Lakshmi reportedly led to her taking the extreme step.
Sailaja’s family members admitted the three of them to the Government hospital at Nandyal and later shifted them to the Kurnool General Hospital on the advice of doctors, Nandyal Rural Circle Inspector Muralidhar Reddy said.
On a complaint lodged by Chapirevula village revenue officer Priyanka, the Nandyal rural police registered a case.
