The TTD Board of trustees on Tuesday endorsed the proposals of the South Central Railway for the development of the Tirupati railway station.

Jointly briefing the media after the meeting, Chairman Ch. Krishnamurthy and Executive Officer Dr. D. Sambasiva Rao said the TTD would part with 2.93 acres on the southern side — a precious piece — of the station on nominal lease. The Board would hand over the land in advance on the condition that the work must be completed within a year.

In a major relief for the agency areas and SC and ST colonies, the management decided to waive off the nominal contribution of Rs. 2 lakhs mandatory for taking up the construction of temples and decided to bear the entire cost of Rs. 8 lakhs on its own.

The Board also sanctioned Rs. 10 crore to the VIRRD hospital at Dwaraka Tirumala, Rs. 5.5 crore for silver dollars, Rs. 25 lakhs for taking up the renovation work at the Veereswari temple in Kothavalasa in Vizianagaram district and building the chariots ( Maha Rathams ) for the temples of Chennakesava Swamy temple at Badvel in Kadapa and Venugopala Swamy temple in Tadikonda in Guntur district and Rs. 32 lakhs for the construction of a 46-feet statue of Lord Hanuman at the Rayalcheruvu lake close to the Tirupati town.
