The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will file a petition in the Supreme Court soon against the ordinance issued by the Centre transferring seven mandals of Khammam district to the successor State of Andhra Pradesh for construction of Polavaram project.
Senior leader of the party and Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar, who camped in New Delhi for three days, discussed the issue with legal experts. The party is strongly objecting to the transfer of non-submergence villages to A.P. against what was mentioned in the gazette notification published in the AP Reorganisation Act- 2014.
The TRS leadership is annoyed by the Centre’s unilateral decision of transferring the non-submergence areas to A.P.“In times of natural calamities such as floods and other emergencies, the villagers will be put to a lot of hardship. Since tribal communities predominantly inhabit the areas, they will get distanced from the society further with the transfer of these villages as the officials from East Godavari cannot reach them in time as those from Khammam can,” Mr. Vinod Kumar explained.
He admitted that there was no clarity on the number of villages to be submerged as the ordinance was talking only about revenue villages which include other villages and hamlets. Apart from filing a petition in the Supreme Court seeking annulment of the ordinance, the TRS will discuss in detail the hardships the displaced people would face with their transfer to A.P. when the Bill would come up for debate in Parliament, the TRS leader told The Hindu over phone while returning from Delhi.
