Heavy rain in Warangal and Khammam districts on Monday forced South Central Railway to divert two express trains and halt five other important trains at different stations in the Dornakal-Gundrathimadugu stretch of the Kazipet–Vijayawada section.
The Charminar Express and Padmavathi Express were diverted to run via Bibinagar, Nadikudi and Guntur. When contacted, SCR officials said some express trains were stopped at various stations en route due to water-logging on the tracks.
The Grand Trunk Express was halted at Kazipet, Satavahana Express at K. Samudram, Godavari Express at Pendyal and Jammu Tawi-Chennai Express at Yeluguru. Special engineering teams were rushed to the affected parts and the situation was being monitored closely before allowing them on their onward journey.
Khammam reporter writes: Several services were disrupted following inundation of a portion of the railway track at Maddivancha village near Gundrathimadugu railway station in Garla mandal. Trains bound for Vijayawada from Kazipet were detained in Warangal district as flood water from the Vuracheruvu pond gushed onto the tracks at Maddivancha village. As railway teams rushed to the site and inspected the flooded tracks, villagers from Maddivancha thronged the place fearing threat to their village. Warangal reporter adds: Several trains came to a halt at various stations in the district on Monday evening as the flood waters inundated the tracks. The Satavahana train was stranded at Mahabubabad; GT at Warangal station, Navajeevan at Dornakal junction, Singareni train at Yelgur and Lucknow express at Intekanne station.
