Top leaders cast their votes in Fort Town

Former PCC chief and Congress nominee for Cheepurapalli Assembly segment Botcha Satyanarayana along with his wife and Congress nominee for Vizianagaram Parliamentary constituency Botcha Jhansilakshmi, his son, daughter and mother voted at the M.R. College centre (PS 143) on Wednesday morning The three generations of voters showed their index fingers with the ink mark after coming out of the booth. Mr. Satyanarayana, while refusing to make any comment, said the arrangements were fine and expressed satisfaction at the awareness generated among voters. Ms. Jhansi said 20 per cent polling was already recorded by then (around 10 a.m.) and expected there would be 80 per cent polling by the end of the day.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Congress nominee for Araku Parliamentary constituency Kishore Chandra Deo voted in his native Kurupam village in Vizianagaram district along with his family members at 11.30 a.m. Mr. Deo was elected to the Lok Sabha five times and once to the Rajya Sabha.

TDP nominee for Vizianagaram Parliamentary constituency Ashok Gajapathi Raju voted along with his family members at St. Mary’s School in the town. “Ours is the largest democracy and it was the duty of every one to vote,” he said.

YSRC nominee for Vizianagaram Parliamentary constituency R.V.S.K.K. Ranga Rao (Baby Nayana), who belongs to the royal family of Bobbili, voted at Bobbili.

Collector Kantilal Dande, who voted at the Kanapaka polling station, expressed satisfaction at the voter turnout witnessed during the first few hours and attributed it to the voter awareness programmes conducted as per the guidelines of the Election Commission. He said tribals participated enthusiastically in the polls in the Agency areas of the district.

Kanthi, first-time voter, was excited as she came out of the M.R. College polling station. “It is a very thrilling experience and I am happy to have utilised my vote,” she said.
