CM says probe will be conducted; announces ex gratia to victims

Two other workers, Mujahiddin Ahmed (26) and Satyanarayana (35), who suffered burns in the blast in the Surampalli industrial area on Saturday, succumbed to burns while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Sunday.

Eight persons suffered burns in the blast occurred in G.S. Alloys and Castings Limited, in Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district. The mishap occurred when molten iron spilled from the furnace after a blast and fell on the workers.

Two persons — E. Shiva Shankar Kumar and Mubarak Ali — died in the blast on Saturday. Four other victims are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The Gannavaram police registered a case. The AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department too registered a case and took up investigation, said District Fire Officer D. Niranjan Reddy.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that action would be taken against those responsible for the blast. He also announced ex gratia to the victims.

The Chief Minister visited the victims undergoing treatment on Sunday and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.

Expressing deep concern, Mr. Naidu said that inquiry would be conducted into the incident. The company would pay a compensation of ₹6 lakh to bereaved families. The government would also pay ₹5 lakh as ex gratia to the deceased and ₹2 lakh to the injured, he said.

Medical and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, CRDA Commissioner Ch. Sridhar, Krishna District Collector B. Lakshmikantham and RDO S. Harish were among those present.
