In the run up to the World Telugu Conference which is due to unfold here on December 27, the Tirupati Task Force, comprising top officials like the Executive Officer of the TTD, District Collector, Chittoor, S.Ps, Chief Engineers has strolled along the core areas of the city covering Alipiri, Kapila Theertham Road, Tiruchanur Road and the Railway junction to get a first hand account of their crying needs and to take ‘on the spot’ decision avoiding procedural delays.

The team also comprised officials from the Municipal Corporation, TUDA, Revenue, Police, TTD, R&B, Electricity, Forest and so on and it periodically visits the important localities of the burgeoning temple city. Its inspection today assumes an added dimension coming as it does ahead of the WTC.

Some of the important decisions taken by the Task Force after its inspection, according to L.V. Subramanyam are, removal of encroachments on the foot-path along all the main roads in the core area and providing railings, construction of common bathrooms and toilets at Alipiri for the convenience of the pilgrims, shifting the existing car park at Kapilatheertham to a more spacious place with the consent of the forest officials, laying of a new road to Tiruchanoor from the Mangalam area to ease traffic congestion on the K.T. Bypass road, construction of a foot over-bridge linking the railway station and the TTD’s massive Vishnu Nivasam complex at a cost of Rs.84 lakhs, finalization of the proposals for construction of a multi-level parking centre opposite the railway station.

There was however no reference to construction of the long-pending foot-over-bridge between the APSRTC Central Bus Station and the TTD’s Srinivasam Amenities Complex where the horrible plight of the pilgrims including the old and the infirm to cross the road amid a chaotic traffic condition is to be seen to believe. The area around the Sankarambadi Sundaracharya Circle would be spruced up by suitably shifting the stinking sewage lines.

Also present in the Task Force team were the Joint Collector, Vinay Chand, Jt. E.O, TTD, Venkatrami Reddy, S.P (Tirupati Urban District), Rajasekhar, CE-TTD, Chandrasekhar Reddy. VC-TUDA, Penchal Reddy and Corporation Commissioner, Murali.
