The ninth annual edition of ‘Tirupati Book Festival’, organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is all set to begin at the sprawling SV High School Grounds here on Saturday.

The book festival started first in 2006 with a handful of stalls and has witnessed a phenomenal growth in nine years and the current edition is expected to witness participation by several major publication houses in the 87 stalls that had been put up. From psychology to philosophy, spirituality to novels and comics to cutlery, the festival has become a feast for bookworms. Prominent among those participating in the nine-day event are Ramakrishna Mutt, TTD, Emesco, Visalandhra, Prajasakti, Dove, Scholastic and Krishnamurthy Foundation.

Collector Siddharth Jain, MCT Commissioner V. Vinaychand and SVIMS Director B. Vengamma will take part as guests at the inaugural while TTD Executive Officer D. Sambasiva Rao, who is also the chairman of the Bhavan’s Tirupati Kendra, will preside. Revered as a treasure trove of knowledge, the books will be taken out in a procession on a palanquin from Mahati Auditorium to the venue before the inaugural, says N. Satyanarayana Raju, honorary director of Bhavan’s Tirupati Kendra.

SVU Vice-Chancellor W. Rajendra, TTD Joint Executive Officer Pola Bhaskar, writer Vadrevu China Veerabhadrudu and philosophy professor at Hyderabad Central University A. Raghurama Raju will attend the valedictory session on February 8.
