Seeking support of his party men in building a world class capital city, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday promised that he would transform the region between Guntur and Vijayawada as one of the most vibrant urban agglomerates in the country.

“You would see development every year. The transformation of Thullur will be a new benchmark in building new cities,’’ Mr. Naidu said, while addressing the 34th foundation day celebrations of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) here.

Mr. Naidu who appeared tired at the end of a long day, spoke for about 45 minutes from the dais erected at Mary Matha High School. Paying rich tributes to the statue of NTR, founder of the TDP, at the school, he said that the projects started by NTR such as Telugu Ganga and the welfare schemes had been role models in the country.

An impressive turnout of the party activists seemed to have gladdened as the Chief Minister spoke at length about his vision to develop the State.

He said that the region had already been sanctioned two central institutes, AIIMS and Agricultural University. “I will build a world class sports stadium with the best infrastructure good enough for conducting Olympics,’’ he said. Commending the land owners of Thullur mandal, Mr. Naidu said that they had a record of sorts by voluntarily parting with 33,000 acres in just 45 days as part of the land pooling scheme. "I will never forget the sacrifice of the land owners,’’ he said.

Reiterating that the port connectivity would be a vital cog in the transformation of the region into an economic hub, Mr. Naidu said that Machilipatnam port and the Vanpic at Nizampatnam would be developed into international ports. An Outer Ring Road extending to 220 km would be laid around Vijayawada, Guntur and Tenali and six-lane road would be laid to connect smaller towns such as Gudivada, Nuzivid, Sattenapalli and Nandigama.

He further said that master plan of the core capital region would be ready soon and it would be put up in the public domain shortly to elicit views on it.
