Tension prevailed at Gollalakoderu village of Palakoderu mandal in West Godavari district on Sunday morning with a person opening fire in the air with his rifle, following a dispute over the ownership of a piece of land. According to the police, village Sarpanch Suryanarayana Raju allocated three cents for the construction of the office of Brahmin Sangham. Ramakrishnam Raju raised objection to the decision. The Sarpanch, however, overruled the objection and made arrangements for handing over the site to the representatives of the Brahmin Sangham on Sunday. An enraged Raju entered the scene with his rifle and opened fire in the air. Panic-stricken people ran helter-skelter. Following a complaint, the police visited the village and arranged security. They took Raju into custody and seized the weapon.
