Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Karimnagar district on Monday.
On the auspicious occasion of the festival, all the temple shrines in Karimnagar district were decorated in a traditional manner.
Similarly, Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada was decked up for the festival and several thousands of devotees thronged the shrine to offer prayers to the presiding deities.
The temple priests performed special pujas on the occasion and read almanac of the Telugu new year and greeted the devotees.
Devotees formed long queues for darshan of the deities.
Similarly, there was heavy pilgrims rush at all the temple shrines of Dharmapuri, Kondagattu, Kaleshwaram etc in the district.
In the town too, people thronged the temples in large numbers to participate in special pujas and listen to the reading of almanacs by the priests.
Following the implementation of model code of conduct, there were no official celebrations of Ugadi by the district administration.
Meanwhile, the Congress party organised the celebrations at its party office and an almanac was read out by a priest.
Karimnagar Member of Parliament Ponnam Prabhakar, town party president Kanna Krishna and others were also present.

People thronged temples to offer prayers since early morning.
As the festival falls on the following day of municipal polls, the contesting candidates and their followers went to temples to pray the almighty to ensure their victory.
District Collector P.S. Pradyumna, Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi, former Minister P. Sudrashan Reddy, MLC D. Srinivas, and legislator Yendala Lakshminarayana greeted the people on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Panchanga Shravanam was rendered at temples.
