Telugu Desam activists burn Roja’s effigy

March 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - ONGOLE:

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists burnt the effigy of YSR Congress MLA R.K. Roja here on Tuesday, accusing her of levelling ‘baseless allegations’ against Minister for Mines and Women Empowerment Peethala Sujatha.

The activists led by TDP Dalit wing district president Kommuri Ravichandra came in a procession to the B.R. Ambedkar statue close to the Prakasam Bhavan.

Raising slogans against the YSRC MLA, they condemned Ms. Roja’s ‘intemperate remarks and gesticulations’ at the Women and Child Welfare Minister during the Assembly session.

They demanded that actor-turned-politician be arrested immediately under the provisions of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act for ‘insulting’ the Dalit Minister who, they maintained, had been striving for improvement of Dalits and women in the State.

They also accused YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy of instigating Ms. Roja for resorting to such behaviour and demanded that YSR C MLAs observed restraint on such issues.
