Even as a thorough facelift was given to the State government owned Sri Venkateswara Anam Kala Kendram auditorium a few days before the commencement of the ‘Nandi Natakotsavalu,’ theatre artistes and the connoisseurs of drama are facing difficulties due to the technical snags. Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation is conducting the prestigious ‘Nandi Natakotsavalu’ for the years 2013 and 2014 in the auditorium.

The fortnight-long festival that began on May 16 will be conducted till May 30.

The artistes have difficulties while performing on the wooden floor of dais, which, they say, is sticky. The audience are able to notice a fumbling in the foot movement of the artistes in many performances. Some of the artists suffered minor injuries such as tongue bite due to slip over.

The sound system is posing a challenge to the audience. Particularly, those who sit on the right side are unable to listen to the dialogues. “When we sit on the right side, we are only able to listen to half the dialogues. ,” says M. Nageswara Rao, a theatre lover from Danavayipeta. “We have spent Rs. 1.8 crore on renovation of this auditorium. The services of experts from the Surabhi theatres troupe are being used for maintaining the acoustics during the Nandi festival,” says M. Francis, DPRO and secretary of the Anam Kala Kendram.
