T-EAMCET: AP aspirants opt to take test in TS border towns

Border cities of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh emerged as the favourite centres of applicants from Andhra Pradesh for the Telangana EAMCET as the last date of applications without fine came to an end.

Cities like Khammam, Warangal, Kodad and Kothagudem were the choice of students from the coastal Andhra districts while Wanaparthy and Mahabubnagar were picked up by students from the Rayalaseema region. However, Hyderabad remained the first choice. “The number of students choosing these small cities increased over last year indicating that AP students preferred them for travel and connectivity reasons,” said T-EAMCET Convenor N.V. Ramana Rao.

The T-EAMCET received 2,26,994 applications in both engineering and medical streams of which 42,106 are from the Andhra Pradesh. Among these, 25,967 were from the Andhra University region, including 10,766 (engg.) and 15,039 (medical), while 16,139 were from Sri Venkateshwara University region including 5,061 (engg.) and 11,016 (medical) streams.

From the Telangana State 1,15,357 applied for engineering and 59,860 for the medical stream.

Another 9,651 candidates applied from the non-Telugu speaking States and they will be eligible for 15 percent non-local (un-reserved) quota in all the three regions if they prove that their parents hail from Telangana or Andhra Pradesh or have resided here for 10 years.

In all 1,36,187 applied for engineering and 90,235 for the medical stream while 1,274 students applied for both the streams, taking the total to 2,28,970. Among the applicants - 85,990 boys applied for engineering and 32,290 for medical. Among the girl candidates, 50,197 applied for engineering and 57,945 chose medical stream. However, the number might go up with facility for applying till a few days before the exam with a penal fee.

The T-EAMCET will be held on May 14 and hall-tickets can be downloaded from May 8. Prof. Ramana Rao said that details of exam centres will be sent to the registered mobiles of students.

Meanwhile, the last date for AP-EAMCET ended on Saturday and it received 1.67 lakh applications for engineering and 82,000 for the agriculture and medical stream. Among these, 8,359 candidates applied for engineering stream and 11,813 for medical stream from Telangana. The AP-EAMCET will be held on May 8 and hall-tickets can be downloaded from May 2 to 6.
