Express serious doubts over claims on progress made

The State government’s claims on progress of irrigation projects in the north Andhra region came under the scanner in the Assembly on Wednesday with ruling party members questioning them.

Telugu Desam MLAs Gunda Lakshmi Devi and others raised the issue during question hour.

Water Resources Minster Devineni Umamaheswara Rao informed the House that 87.74% works on the SGL Thotapalli Barrage Project were completed. While 65% works of BRR Vamsadhara Phase II of stage II were completed, 78.36% of Madduvalasa reservoir stage-II were completed.

Likewise, Janjavathi reservoir project works were completed to the tune of 98.78%. The government could complete 41% works of the Tarakarama Thirtha Sagaram reservoir project, 22.86% of offshore reservoir on the Mahendratanaya river were completed, he said.

The ruling party members, however, expressed serious doubts over the government claims. They stated the works were not going at the pace which the government was claiming. There was an urgent need for assessing the situation at the ground level, they said.

Referring to Mahendratanaya, the MLAs said that there was no sanction for the bund. The project cost touched ₹466 crore due to delay. The ayacut stabilsation was not going according to plan with regard to Vamsadhara Phase II stage II, they pointed out.
