The Denduluru police registered a case against TDP MLA and Government Whip Chitamaneni Prabhakar for allegedly attacking an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and his staff, while they were diverting traffic.

Shocked over the high-handed behaviour of the MLA, ASI J. Papa Rao, attached to Devarapalli police station, lodged a complaint in Denduluru police station in West Godavari district, on Monday.

According to the police, the ASI and the other police personnel were diverting traffic, at Gundugolanu village centre, in view of the ‘jatara’ being held at Devarapalli.

The ASI and constables were following the directions of the superior officers and were diverting the vehicular traffic towards Tadepalligudem to prevent traffic congestions.

Abused

Mr. Prabhakar, who came to the spot late in the night on Sunday, had an argument with the police for diverting the traffic. “The MLA used abusive language and attacked the police,” the complaint says.

Police registered a case under Section 353 of IPC (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), Section 506 of IPC (punishment for criminal intimidation) and other sections.

Mr. Prabhakar represents from Denduluru Assembly Constituency. No arrest has been made in the case, the West Godavari police told The Hindu .
