The Telugu Desam Party’s annual conclave, Mahanadu, began on a grand note here on Saturday.
National president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s inaugural speech centred around State politics and governance, and made no significant mention of Telangana.
Neither did Mr. Naidu say anything explicitly about the continuation of the TDP-BJP alliance in 2019, although he explained the reasons for forging the alliance with the BJP in 2014. All he said was that the TDP-BJP alliance completed three years, and the lone Opposition party YSR Congress lacked vision and direction in Andhra Pradesh.
TDP founder-president N.T. Rama Rao’s family members, including Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna and his brother Nandamuri Harikrishna, polit bureau member, were conspicuous by their absence. The reason for their absence was not known.
Message for party
Mr. Naidu’s message for the party workers was loud and clear.
“Popularise welfare schemes, development programmes and achievements of the government. The aim is to achieve satisfaction among people. Get connected to people. I want 80% voting for the TDP in the next election,” he said. He wanted the government’s policies, including People First, to be popularised.
