Former Minister Ravela Kishore Babu and Minister for Roads and Buildings Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu were engaged in a war of words at the 122nd birth anniversary celebrations of Gurram Jashuva here on Thursday.

Mr. Kishore Babu said that some agitators in Telangana had once planned to pull down Jashuva’s statue on Tank Bund in Hyderabad, but activists of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi had stalled their plans.

He said he had expected more people from Yadava community to be present in the meeting as Jashuva’s father was a Yadava and his mother belonged to Scheduled Castes.

‘Eschew casteism’

Reacting to Mr. Kishore Babu’s remarks, Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu said that one should eschew all feelings of regionalism and casteism.

He said that great leaders such as NTR and Jashuva had contributed to the common good of the state and they should not be identified with any particular caste.
