An all-party meeting convened by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) in New Delhi on Thursday decided to raise the issue of separate statehood with President Pranab Mukherjee.

Besides writing to the Mr. Mukherjee, the meeting also called for forcefully raising the issue in Parliament.

In attendance at the event were CPI MP D. Raja, BJP general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, NCP MP Govind Rao Adik and leaders of TRS, JD (U), Rashtriya Lok Dal, Forward Bloc, Aam Aadmi Party, CPI – ML (New Democracy) and Panthers Party of J&K.

“Don't delay”

JAC chairman M. Kodandaram said over phone that the meeting was unanimous on meeting the people’s aspirations for a separate State. There could not be any delay in its formation, he said.

Conditional support

Meanwhile, TRS MLA K.T. Rama Rao told a separate meeting here that the party would support the Congress in the local body elections if it announced formation of State before July 23.

The announcement should come in the form of a resolution by the Union Cabinet, he said. If it had happened, the party will tell people to vote for Congress.
