Sushma urged for early release of abducted engineer

Information and Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Thursday urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to instruct the Indian High Commission officials in Nigeria to take necessary steps for safe and early release of Tanguturi Srinivasa Rao, an engineer from Guntur district, who was abducted by unknown persons.

In a letter to Ms. Sushma, the Minister said Mr. Rao had been working as stores manager/ site engineer at Legency Marid Nigeria Ltd Construction firm at Payelasa/ Emigo town of Ogaria State in Nigeria for the last three years. Quoting media reports, he said that Mr. Rao was kidnapped from his office by some unknown persons on November 28 and his whereabouts were not known since then.

His aged parents and family members were anxious and pleading for his safe return at the earliest. He said the State government was also concerned and requested the External Affairs Minister to use her good offices and give instructions to Indian High Commission officials in Nigeria to intervene in this matter urgently.
