Montessori Mahila Kalasala organised a day-long national seminar on atrocities against women, present challenges and future trends, on the college premises here on Tuesday.
Addressing the students and faculty members, former MP Chennupati Vidya said that Andhra Pradesh stands first in the country in atrocities against women. Eve-teasing and gang-rape incidents reflect the ugly dimension of the society. She pointed out that political parties should take up the matter seriously and fight against it.
Bharatiyam Chairperson Gottipati Satyavani spoke about the history of women in India. She pointed out that students apart from regular curriculum should also concentrate on Indian art and traditions. Ms. Satyavani said that globalisation was swaying the world to its tune and it is having an adverse effect on the ancient culture and traditions and influencing the young minds.
Director and Correspondent of the college V. Koteswaramma, Mahila Samaikya Vice-President Akkineni Vanaja and former Mayor Tadi Shakuntala also spoke.
