Andhra Pradesh government is proposing to send 30 senior officials from different departments for a five-day training programme in urban planning in January next to the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC), Singapore.

Official sources said officials dealing with the development of the new Andhra Pradesh capital would be selected to undergo the training. They would include police, public health and urban development officials.

CLC would also be requested to provide support in establishing an Urban Management Centre at Vijayawada. He said an expert in urban planning from CLC would be visiting the State from December 9 to 12.

Meanwhile, the government would issue a notification soon outlining the contours of the proposed capital region, Social Welfare Minister R. Kishore Babu said.

He told reporters after a meeting of the Land Pooling Committee that a skill development centre would be established in the capital region to impart livelihood skills to farmers. The Finance Minister has agreed to provide finances to meet the expenditure for posting of staff, surveyors and purchase of equipment in connection with land pooling.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said the rules and regulations regarding the compensation to be paid to those parting with land would be finalised in a week. He said three types of packages were being sought by the farmers -- those close to the national highway, those having fertile lands and the rest not in either of the two categories.
