SSC examination: corporation schools exceed expectations

Full credit goes to teaching staff and parents, say officials

May 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM:

Municipal corporation schools as well as the century-old Railway Mixed High School in the city excelled in the SSC examination, the results of which were announced recently.

Students from below the poverty line exhibited their skills in the examinations on a par with those in the corporate schools.

There are 13 high schools under the Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram (MCR) from which 1,162 students appeared for the examinations. Out of them, 1,114 passed with 95.87 per cent.

“Though the pass percentage was 3.7 more than the previous year, 10 students secured 9.8 (grade point average) points out of 10. Devarakonda Bhanu Satya Gouri Prasad, a student of municipal school in Vankayalavari Street, achieved 10/10, which is first in the history of our schools,” said Municipal Commissioner V. Vijayaramaraju.

The city municipal school achieved 100 per cent results and the town hall school 98 per cent.

“The entire credit goes to the teaching staff as also the parents who bestowed their faith in the municipal corporation schools though there is a pressure from corporate schools to join their children in their institutions,” said Additional Commissioner G. Srinivasa Rao and Deputy Commissioner Phaniram.

The officials thanked corporation’s Educational Officer B. Swarnalatha and District Education Department’s Deputy DEO S. Abraham for their efforts in putting up a good show.

Railway school’s distinction

Two students of Railway Mixed High School scored 10/10.

In-charge headmistress Rajani Kumari and mathematics teacher G. Venkateswara Rao said that out of 27 students who appeared for the examination, 25 passed. U. Pratyusha and Ch. Hemalatha scored 10/10. Out of four railway schools — Birtaguna, Guntupally, Rajamahendravaram, and Vijayawada — only two students from the Rajamahendravaram school got 10/10.
